Howard University Hospital offers individual and group Diabetes Self-Management Education courses for people who have Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. Please call Janice Harris at (202) 865-3350 for more information or to register for Howard University Hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Education Program.

The hospital also offers a Diabetes support group on the first Tuesday of each month at 6pm. The support group meets at Howard University Hospital 2041 Georgia Avenue, NW, Room 308. Joslin Diabetes Center, an affiliate of Providence Hospital, offers Diabetes Education Self-Management courses and Diabetes Prevention Program courses. There are three options available for persons interested in enrolling in Joslin Diabetes Center’s courses: Diabetes Today is a three session, comprehensive Diabetes Self-Management Education course. Diabetes Short is a one-time, hour long Diabetes Self-Management Education course. Diabetes Update is a one time, two-hour long, comprehensive Diabetes Self-Management Course.  Joslin Diabetes Center also offers Diabetes Prevention Program courses, personal 1-on-1 education, and a Diabetes support group. All Joslin Diabetes Center Diabetes Self-Management Education courses are held at 1100 Varnum Street, NE, DePaul Professional Building, Suite 110. Please call Andrea C. MedStar Washington Hospital Center offers individual Diabetes education consultations and group Diabetes Self-Management Education courses. Both require a doctor’s referral and insurance. Group courses are held on the 3rd and 4th Tuesday of every month from 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon. Individual 1-hour consultations with a Certified Diabetes Educator are available by appointment only. Classes are held at 110 Irving Street, NW. Sibley Memorial Hospital offers a number of Diabetes Education Programs. The Outpatient Diabetes Education Program is a two-hour long, weekly session that meets for three weeks. Participants must be referred by a physician to attend and once enrolled, must attend all three sessions. The Outpatient Diabetes Education Program also offers a weekly program for women with Gestational Diabetes. Sibley Memorial Hospital also offers a Diabetes support group that meets quarterly, and is open to the public.
